BASA has a service area of approximately 32.5 square miles. The service area is comprised of Butler and Center Townships, the City of Butler, and Borough of East Butler, portions of Connoquenessing, Oakland, Summit Township and a very small portion of Penn Township.
The nearly 15,000 customers within the area are serviced by over 230 miles of interceptor sewers, 23 pump stations, 7 equalization tanks, and the 10 million gallon per day sewage treatment plant located on Litman Road.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has regulatory oversight of the operations of BASA. The communities within the service area support BASA to meet the DEP requirements. The communities pass ordinances to comply with DEP directives to improve service and communicate the necessity for these ordinances to the people. BASA personnel enforce these ordinances on behalf of the communities.
